Is Your Submersible Pump Running Continuously?
Troubleshooting a submersible pump that is running continuously
Is your submersible water well pump running non-stop? If it is, there are several possibilities that could be causing this issue. Identifying the problem and then fixing the issue will help to save wear and tear on your pump, as well as help to keep your electric bill lower.
Here are some common issues that will cause your submersible pump to run continuously.
Issue #1: There’s a hole in the drop pipe
A hole in the drop pipe down the well, which can be caused by damage or corrosion over time, will prevent the pump from switching off as it attempts to build pressure in the tank. A delay in correcting this problem will only allow the hole to grow larger, thereby further increasing your energy bills and the cost of the repair to your system.
Issue #2: You have plumbing leaks
A leak in your plumbing system will cause your submersible pump to run continuously, as it works to provide water for the leak. By locating the leak and making the repairs, this will help resolve problem.
Issue #3: The pressure switch settings are incorrect
You could simply have the pressure switch set incorrectly. You may be able to resolve this issue by simply adjusting the settings. It is also possible that the settings on the pressure switch have been disrupted due to a clogged tube or burned contact points. If this is the case, replacing or repairing the pressure switch will be necessary in order to address the issue.
Issue #4: The age of your submersible pump
If your submersible pump is old, it may have simply reached the end of its lifespan. Over time, submersible pumps do tend to become less efficient. If it has been many years since you have upgraded your submersible pump, it may be time to replace your pump.
